Sub-Badge 3: Analysis Techniques for Instruction
Planning and Analysis
Challenge 1: Determine subordinate and prerequisite skills and knowledge
Criteria for successful completion of this challenge: Evidence of determining subordinate and prerequisite skills and knowledge. Reflection must address: How you determined subordinate and pre-req skills/knowledge for an audience (goal analysis, instructional analysis, etc.).
Examples: Demonstration of identifying all of the steps a learner needs in order to achieve the learner goal, organizing learning objectives in a hierarchical order, identifying the steps needed in order to meet a goal, EDCI 572 Design Documents, EDCI 577 Content/Audience analysis (Jet Blue, Instructional Product Evaluations), artifacts focused on determining pre-req skills and knowledge (design, performance, workplace, educational, other).
Reflection
The challenge of determining subordinate and prerequisite skills and knowledge was addressed through my creation of the "Instructional Product Evaluation Plan - Part 1" for the EDCI 577 course. This artifact provided a structured methodology for identifying and evaluating the specific educational needs and skills required by faculty members at UT Austin to integrate AI tools effectively into their teaching practices.
The artifact supported the competency by detailing a process through which the educational needs of the target audience were systematically analyzed and addressed. This involved identifying gaps in current knowledge and skills, and proposing tailored instructional strategies to bridge these gaps, ensuring the educational interventions were relevant and effective.
My experience in conducting thorough educational needs assessments in past projects greatly informed the creation of this artifact. These experiences provided me with a robust foundation in evaluating and articulating the educational prerequisites necessary for successful learning interventions, which was essential in developing the evaluation plan.
This project affirmed the artifact's effectiveness in addressing the challenge of identifying prerequisite and subordinate skills essential for educational success. It deepened my understanding of the need for precise alignment of educational interventions with learner needs. From this experience, I learned the value of meticulous pre-implementation analysis and the impact of well-founded instructional strategies on teaching efficacy. In future projects, I aim to expand my application of these analytical skills to a wider array of educational settings, enhancing my ability to tailor learning solutions to diverse learner populations.

Challenge 2: Use appropriate techniques to analyze various types and sources to validate content.
Criteria for successful completion of this challenge: Evidence of utilizing validation techniques (checking the source, researching the author - education, experience, reputation, how many times cited, etc.). Reflection must address: The specific techniques you used to validate your sources and content.
Examples: Any research paper (EDCI 513 Final Literature Review, EDCI 531 Final Paper), peer-reviews focusing on checking other’s sources, annotated bibliography (EDCI 660), work-related documentation (design, performance, workplace, educational, other) focused on use of or creation of validation techniques.
Reflection
For the challenge titled "Use appropriate techniques to analyze various types and sources to validate content" in the Planning and Analysis Supra-Badge of your LDT program, I chose the Small Scale Literature Review I completed for my EDCI 513 class. This artifact demonstrates my ability to critically analyze educational research and validate the content presented within several scholarly articles. The process involved selecting articles that were not only peer-reviewed but also directly related to the topic of instructional design in online learning environments. This required a detailed examination of each article's credentials, the relevance of the data presented, and the arguments made by the authors to ensure they were robust and applicable to the field.
This literature review required me to not only summarize the articles but also synthesize the information to present a new understanding of the topic. I employed critical analysis skills to assess the quality of the research and its implications for instructional design, focusing on how these insights could be applied to enhance educational practices. The process enhanced my skills in evaluating the credibility of sources and organizing a cohesive narrative that highlighted the evolution of thoughts and practices within the instructional design community.
In creating the literature review, I relied on my background in educational technology and instructional design, which helped in understanding complex theories and concepts discussed in the articles. My previous experiences in reviewing educational content and creating instructional materials provided a strong foundation for this assignment, allowing me to critically engage with the literature and effectively argue the synthesized conclusions.
This exercise has reinforced the importance of thorough source validation and has improved my ability to discern and articulate the implications of research findings. It has also prepared me to better handle future academic and professional projects where such skills are paramount. Going forward, I plan to continue refining these skills, ensuring that I maintain a rigorous approach to source validation in all my scholarly and professional endeavors.
