Sub-Badge 2: Applying ID Research and Theory

Professional Foundations in LDT

Challenge 1: Explain key concepts and principles related to instructional design.

Criteria for successful completion of this challenge: Evidence must demonstrate the interpretation of instructional design concepts and principles in writing or verbal expression.  Reflection must address: How you explained and interpreted key instructional design concepts and principles in their evidence.

Examples: Publications, research or white papers (EDCI 513, EDCI 531), professional presentations, blog posts, work trainings, evaluation plans (EDCI 577, EDCI 572, EDCI 528, EDCI 564, EDCI 528), evidence of explaining instructional design related concepts and principals (in design, performance, workplace, educational, or other settings).

Reflection

For the challenge "Applying ID Research & Theory" under the "Professional Foundations in LDT" Supra-Badge, I selected Part 3 of my Design Document from the EDCI 572 course as the artifact. This document illustrates my advanced application of instructional design principles in the development of a Food Photography Composition module, which I structured according to the Dick and Carey Model. This part of the document, encompassing performance objectives, assessment strategies, and instructional materials, demonstrates a sophisticated understanding and implementation of instructional design theories tailored for adult learners interested in enhancing their photography skills.

In developing this module, I utilized my expertise as a subject matter expert in photography combined with my instructional design background. This expertise was crucial in crafting effective learning outcomes and engaging content that met the specific needs of the learners. The process of designing this module was informed by my prior knowledge and experience, which facilitated a nuanced approach to integrating theoretical principles with practical application. This project reflected a significant alignment of educational theory with real-world application, highlighting my ability to synthesize complex concepts into actionable teaching strategies.

Reflecting on this experience, I recognize the critical role that thorough planning and responsive assessment strategies play in the success of educational programs. The iterative process of feedback and revision not only enhanced the module's effectiveness but also deepened my understanding of how to apply instructional design principles in varied contexts. Looking forward, I am committed to further refining these skills, particularly focusing on interactive and learner-centered design approaches to maximize learner engagement and achievement in future projects.

This reflection and the associated design document articulate my ability to apply and explain instructional design theories effectively, showcasing my competency in a practical setting and affirming my commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of instructional design.
